Winter and Snow Removal Questions
WHAT IS THE SERVICE LEVEL FOR SNOW REMOVAL?
The Roads Department performs snow removal on roads maintained by Guilford Township. Plowing typically begins at 3:30 a.m., and it takes approximately three hours to clear all of the roads. Unless there is a heavy winter storm, snow removal ends around 7:00 p.m. for the night
due to low traffic.
Salt is used to treat snow and ice on roads when temperatures are above 20° F. Salt loses its effectiveness when temperatures drop below 20° F, and light stone may be spread for grip.
WHICH ROADS ARE USUALLY CLEARED FIRST DURING SNOW REMOVAL?
The Roads Department starts with roads that are the most travelled. Blake Road is usually cleared first.
DOES GUILFORD TOWNSHIP ENFORCE A 'NO PARKING' SNOW BAN?
While there is not a posted snow ban, it would be appreciated if cars were not parked on roads between 3:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. when snow is expected. The State Highway Patrol monitors the township roads, and may tow vehicles that are parked on roads that may obstruct snow plows or emergency vehicles.
WILL THE TOWNSHIP REPAIR OR REPLACE MY MAILBOX IF IT IS DAMAGED WHEN ROADS ARE PLOWED?
If a mailbox is damaged by impact from the plow, the township will repair the mailbox. If the mailbox cannot be repaired it will be replaced by a plain, standard mailbox. If a mailbox is damaged by snow coming off a plow, the homeowner is responsible for repairing or replacing the mailbox.
If you believe your mailbox was damaged by a snow plow during snow removal operations, contact the township at (330) 975-4288.
